Aircon Repairs

If your air-conditioner is blowing warm air, dripping water or tripping the breaker, we can find the fault and fix it properly. We work across Johannesburg North, Sandton, Randburg, Midrand, the East Rand and the West Rand for homes, flats, shops and offices.

Aircon Repairs

What our aircon repair service covers

Our repair service starts with proper fault-finding, because a unit that is not cooling is not always a gas issue. We check the full system, from the indoor fan coil and filters to the outdoor condenser, wiring, drainage and controls. That helps us sort out the real problem first time, rather than changing parts that are still good.

Common repair callouts include non-cooling, weak airflow, water leaks, noisy indoor units, outdoor fan problems, tripping at switch-on, frozen coils and systems that cycle on and off too often. We also repair aircons that struggle in summer heat, coastal humidity or after load-shedding when power comes back with a surge.

  • Fault-finding for split and inverter aircons
  • Gas leak checks and pressure testing
  • Drain blockage clearing and condensate leak repair
  • Electrical checks, capacitor testing and terminal tightening
  • Fan motor, sensor and control fault diagnosis
  • Re-gassing where the system has lost refrigerant and the leak has been addressed

How we diagnose a faulty aircon

We follow a step-by-step process so the repair is clear and the work is measurable. First we inspect the installation, usage pattern and symptoms. Then we test indoor and outdoor performance, current draw, temperature split, refrigerant pressures where applicable, drainage and fan speeds. If there is an electrical issue, we check supply, isolator, wiring, PCB signals and overload protection.

After that we explain what has failed, what can be repaired on site, and what needs a part or follow-up visit. Where a replacement is the better call, we will say so. There is no point throwing money at a machine that is beyond economical repair, especially on older fixed-speed units with repeated gas loss or compressor damage.

  • Visual inspection and safety check
  • Operational testing under load
  • Electrical and refrigerant system tests
  • Report on repair options and parts needed
  • Repair work, re-test and final run check

Typical repairs we handle on site

Many aircon faults can be sorted in one visit, especially when the issue is blocked drainage, loose wiring, dirty filters or a failed capacitor. Other jobs need parts, refrigerant recovery or a return visit for deeper work. We carry common service items where possible to reduce downtime for homes and offices that cant wait days for cooling to return.

For inverter systems we pay close attention to sensors, communication faults and board issues, because these units often show error patterns that look similar but point to different causes. For older systems, we check whether the compressor is still healthy before any major repair is approved. In humid areas, blocked drains and mould build-up are very common and can cause bad smells, leaks and poor airflow.

  • Drain line flushing and float switch repair
  • Replacing capacitors, contactors and damaged wiring
  • Fan motor and blade repairs
  • Gas leak detection, vacuuming and re-charge after repair
  • Cleaning of heavily soiled indoor and outdoor coils
  • Sensor and control board fault checks on inverter units

Repair turnaround, parts and pricing approach

Turnaround depends on the fault, access and parts availability. Simple repairs may be done on the same day, while a part-led repair may take 2 to 5 working days if a specific component must be sourced. Larger office systems and rooftop or ceiling installations may need a scheduled return visit, especially where access is tight or power isolation is required.

Our pricing approach is straightforward. We quote after diagnosis, so you know the labour, parts and any refrigerant work before we proceed. We do not guess at prices on the phone for faults that need testing. If a repair is minor, we keep it lean. If the issue involves leak detection, re-gassing, board replacement or major dismantling, we explain the cost split clearly. No one likes surprise extras at the end of the job, especially when the aircon has already been off for days.

When a repair needs more than a quick fix

Some systems can be repaired and still perform well for years. Others are past that point, usually because of repeated gas loss, a badly failing compressor, water damage to controls or poor original installation. We look at the age of the unit, the service history and the real running cost before recommending a full repair. If the repair cost is close to the price of a replacement, we will talk you through both options honestly.

Signs that a repair may not be enough include frequent breaker trips, repeated leaks, loud compressor noise, burnt smells, and aircons that have had several callouts in one season. In those cases, replacing the unit can be cheaper over 12 months than paying for short-term fixes. For offices in Sandton or Midrand with multiple units, we also consider downtime, staff comfort and whether a staged replacement plan makes better sense.

How often your aircon should be serviced after a repair

Once an aircon has been repaired, the next step is keeping it in good condition so the same fault does not come back. For homes, we usually recommend servicing every 6 to 12 months, depending on how much the unit is used and whether the area is dusty or near the coast. For offices, shops and busy sites, 3 to 6 month intervals are often better, especially where units run most of the day.

A proper service after repair helps maintain airflow, cooling capacity and drainage. It also keeps strain off the compressor and reduces the risk of another breakdown during peak summer. We can set up maintenance plans for single units, multi-storey offices and mixed sites with several aircons, so filters, drain pans and coils are checked before small issues turn into expensive repairs.

  • Homes: every 6 to 12 months
  • Offices and shops: every 3 to 6 months
  • Coastal or dusty areas: more frequent checks may be needed
  • After major repairs: recheck the unit within the next service cycle

Booking a repair in Johannesburg and Gauteng

We work from Johannesburg North and cover Sandton, Randburg, Midrand, the East Rand and the West Rand. If your unit is leaking, noisy, weak on cooling or has stopped working altogether, send us the symptoms, the make and model if you have it, and the location of the indoor and outdoor units. That helps us prepare the right tools before we arrive.

Aircon repairs are often simpler when handled early. Waiting until the middle of a heatwave can make a small fault worse, because a machine that is struggling will run longer and harder. If you want the unit checked, repaired and put back into proper working order, we can help with a practical assessment and a clear quote.

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Why is my aircon running but not cooling?

It could be low refrigerant, a dirty coil, a blocked filter, a failed sensor, poor airflow or an electrical fault. We test the system before recommending any repair.

Can you repair a leaking aircon on site?

Often yes, if the leak is from a blocked drain, loose piping or a simple condensate issue. If refrigerant is leaking, we first locate and fix the source before re-gassing.

Do you repair inverter aircons as well?

Yes. Inverter units need proper electrical and control testing, because symptoms can point to sensors, boards or communication faults rather than just gas loss.
