Centurion Boardroom Cassette

A cassette replacement in Centurion can change how a boardroom feels, sounds and looks. This project covered removal of an old unit, a cleaner new install, and a proper handover for day to day use.

Centurion Boardroom Cassette

Boardroom aircon that had to look right as well as work right

The client was a professional office in Centurion with a formal meeting room used for management meetings, presentations and client sessions. The existing cassette unit was getting noisy, showing signs of age and no longer fitted the room well. Cooling was uneven and by mid morning the room was already warm, especially when the blinds were closed and people were seated around the table.

The brief was clear. Replace the old unit with a cassette that cooled the room properly, kept the ceiling finish tidy, and would not draw attention during meetings. The boardroom needed comfort without the bulk of a wall mounted unit or the visual clutter of temporary fixes. In a room like this, appearance matters, and so does low noise.

  • Client type: private office boardroom
  • Area: Centurion, Gauteng
  • Project type: cassette replacement
  • Use: meetings, presentations, daily office use

What got in the way during the changeover

The main constraint was that the room could not be out of use for long. Boardrooms tend to be booked at short notice and the client wanted the downtime kept to a minimum. There was also an existing ceiling opening that needed to be checked before any new equipment went in, because cassette replacements often reveal old support work, odd pipe routes or patchy insulation from earlier installations.

We also had to work around an occupied office environment. That meant tidy access, careful protection of floors and furniture, and a plan that limited noise and mess during business hours. Centurion can get very warm in summer, and load-shedding periods meant the room had to recover quickly once power returned. The new system had to cool fast, not just run all day and hope for the best.

  • Limited downtime for meetings
  • Existing ceiling opening had to be checked
  • Clean work area required for office use
  • Fast pull-down after power interruptions

Supply and fit of the new cassette unit

We supplied a new ceiling cassette sized for the room and the normal occupancy load. The replacement included the indoor cassette unit, a matching outdoor unit, refrigeration pipework changes where needed, condensate drain checks, electrical reconnections and final commissioning. Where the old installation had left marks, we adjusted the fit so the new fascia sat neatly and the room still looked formal.

The installation was done by our team under Pieter van Rensburg, with service checks coordinated by Ayesha Patel and technical sign-off handled by Sibusiso Dlamini. The aim was not only to swap a unit, but to leave the system balanced, quiet and easy to live with. We tested cooling, fan operation, drain fall and remote control response before handover. A boardroom cannot have a drip on the carpet or a fan that rattles during a meeting, simple as that.

  • New ceiling cassette supplied and fitted
  • Outdoor unit connected and commissioned
  • Drain and condensate line checked
  • Electrical and control connections verified
  • Old unit removed and area left clean

How long it took and what the room gained

The project ran over two weeks from inspection to completion. The first stage was the site survey and sizing check. The second stage covered supply confirmation, removal planning and materials prep. The third stage was the physical replacement and commissioning. This staged approach helped avoid surprises on site and kept the room disruption short.

Once running, the difference was clear. The room cooled more evenly, noise dropped noticeably and the boardroom looked cleaner because the replacement sat properly in the ceiling grid. The client also gained better confidence in the system before important meetings. In a room like this, that matters just as much as the temperature reading. Nobody wants to start a presentation while a unit is humming away overhead. The new setup made the room feel more settled, and it was easier to use right through the day.

From a practical point of view, the replacement also reduced the risk of repeated callouts for an ageing unit that had reached the point where repairs were no longer the sensible option. When a cassette starts failing often, replacement can save time and money over the longer term.

Why cassette units suit formal meeting rooms

Cassette units suit boardrooms because they distribute air evenly and stay out of the way. The visible part is neat and central, while the main body is tucked into the ceiling. That means more usable wall space for screens, shelving and presentation boards. It also helps in rooms where people sit for long periods and do not want a direct blast of cold air.

For offices in Gauteng, the cassette format works well when the room has a ceiling void and regular occupancy. It is a sensible choice for spaces that need reliable cooling without changing the room layout. In this project, the ceiling layout allowed for a clean swap, which saved time and avoided major building work. Some rooms need more repair than others, but this one was a good fit for a straightforward replacement.

  • Even air distribution across the room
  • Less visual clutter than wall mounted equipment
  • Suitable for meeting rooms and reception spaces
  • Works well where wall space is limited

What we would do again on a similar Centurion job

If we were doing a similar boardroom replacement again, we would follow the same process. Start with a proper site visit, confirm the ceiling space, check the electrical supply and make sure the drainage route is sound before anything is ordered. That saves a lot of back and forth later. We would also plan the changeover around the room booking calendar so the office stays productive.

For clients in Centurion, Sandton, Midrand and the wider Gauteng area, we usually recommend a maintenance plan after the install, especially where the room runs daily and the building has long operating hours. Regular filter cleaning, drain checks and a seasonal service help prevent nuisance failures. Heat, dust and office use all add up over time. A boardroom aircon should stay quiet, clean and predictable, not become another admin issue.

Thabo Mokoena and the team at Airconditioning Superstore continue to handle these projects with the same practical approach: proper sizing, neat work, and honest advice on when repair stops making sense and replacement is the better call.

What clients say

Questions we get asked

Why was a cassette unit the right choice for this boardroom?

A cassette unit gave even cooling, kept the room tidy and avoided taking up wall space needed for screens and furniture.

How long does a boardroom cassette replacement usually take?

For a straightforward job like this, the project can be completed in about two weeks from site visit to final handover, depending on supply and access.

Can you replace an old cassette without major ceiling work?

Often yes, if the ceiling opening and pipe routes are still suitable. We check that on site before confirming the replacement method.
